The TV presenters are men on a mission: to taste the best alcohol in Britain - and defend middle-class tipplers against the PC puritans. While Britain shivered in the post-Christmas chill, James May was enjoying the sun, the sea and the sand of Sri Lanka. The holiday, with his long-term girlfriend, music and dance journalist Sarah Frater, was intended as an antidote to his summer vacation. It was spent touring Britain in a knackered old caravan. The three decades-old Sprite leaked constantly, the drips of rain falling on the billiard-ball smooth head of May's travelling companion, the loquacious wine writer Oz Clarke.

The booze brothers: Why James May and Oz Clarke are drinking to Britain
By Chris Pleasance. Inderjit Singh Mangher, 30, and his brother, Amandeep Singh Mangher, 27, sold the drink at their off-licence in Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire, and stored vast amounts of alcohol in a nearby warehouse. Inderjit was sentenced to four years in prison and his brother Amandeep was jailed for 27 months for duty evasion at Leeds Crown Court. Inderjit Singh Mangher left was jailed for four years and his brother Amandeep Singh right was given 27 months behind bars for duty evasion after they picked up drink which was destined for export. The alcohol was exempt from various taxes as it was due to be shipped out of the UK, but the brothers managed to get hold of it instead.
